Designed by Kozo Watanabe and Launched in 1995 as the successor to the legendary R32, the R33 used the same RB26DETT engine as the R32 with an improved intake cam. The R33 used the same transmission as the R32 as well but with stronger synchros. With Japanese laws limiting the horsepower to 280ps, Nissan focused on improving everything else. Eliminated from most racing by the governing bodies of motorsports, the R33 took to the Nürburgring in Germany to improve upon its racing reputation. It took the production car lap record flying around the 13-mile circuit in 7 minutes and 59 seconds.
